Blue prints of life

Exhibited @ The Old School House Gallery 2022

This exhibition consisted of a selection of cyanotype prints hand crafted on different media ranging from hand made Japanese rice paper to machine made calico.

Taking inspiration and materials from the Wirrabara Forest area, the designs reflect the local landscape and flora, both native and introduced.

The exploration of fabric printing led me to create a series of one-of-a-kind cushion  covers that brought a real point of difference to this photographic exhibition.

Cyanotypes are one of the oldest photographic printing processes in the history of photography. The distinctive feature of the print is its shade of cyan blue, which results from its exposure to ultraviolet light. When the blue print emerged, cyanotypes were traditionally used for reproducing the technical drawings of architects and engineers until the arrival of photocopy machines. However, with its versatility and affordability, the technique was adopted by photographers soon after its discovery.
