From the Southern Flinders Ranges
Exhibited @ Chargeo for SALA & A Brush With Art 2021
Having grown up in the region and recently returned to live in Crystal Brook, I was motivated to explore what drives my love, longing and passion for the landscapes of the Southern Flinders Ranges.
The creation of these photographs comes from an exploration of connection to the landscapes of the region how the tones, textures and colours draw you into the experience of place rather than a literal rendering or any defining landmarks or details.
The use of in camera and long exposure techniques offers the opportunity to forget about the singularity of a minute point in time synonymous with our traditional idea of a photograph. The capture of light over extended times or the layering of these scenes allows each image to describe an idea of place and a notion of movement through time, while discarding the literal description of the scene the moment the shutter button was pressed.
By offering a visual familiarity universal to the human condition yet unique to the region, the aim of this exhibition is to give the viewer the experience they can read into, a trigger for their memories, or a yearning to explore
